What is A Pneumatic Actuated Butterfly Valve

Pneumatic Actuated Butterfly Valve is a fluid control device consisting of a Pneumatic Actuator and a Butterfly Valve‌. The pneumatic actuator uses compressed air as the power source. By driving the valve stem to rotate, it drives the disc-shaped butterfly plate to rotate in the pipeline, thereby changing the flow cross-sectional area and flow rate inside the pipeline to achieve fluid control. The core component of the pneumatic butterfly valve is a disc (butterfly plate) similar to a butterfly wing, which is connected to the pneumatic actuator through the valve stem. ‌

Working Principle of Pneumatic Actuated Butterfly Valve

The working principle of the pneumatic butterfly valve is mainly based on the action of the pneumatic actuator and the movement of the butterfly plate. When the pneumatic actuator receives a control signal, it drives the valve stem to rotate, causing the butterfly plate to rotate in the pipeline. The initial position of the butterfly plate is determined according to actual needs. When the butterfly plate rotates to 90° with the valve body, the pneumatic butterfly valve is fully open; when the butterfly plate rotates to 0° with the valve body, the pneumatic butterfly valve is closed.

 

Classification of Pneumatic Butterfly Valves

There are many ways to classify pneumatic butterfly valves:

‌Classification by Material‌:

  • Stainless steel pneumatic butterfly valves
  • Carbon steel pneumatic butterfly valves.

‌Classification by Seat Sealing:

  • Hard-sealed pneumatic butterfly valves: The sealing surface of the hard-sealed pneumatic butterfly valve is made of metal or alloy materials, which is suitable for high temperature, high pressure or corrosive media
  • Soft-sealed pneumatic butterfly valves: The sealing surface of the soft-sealed pneumatic butterfly valve is made of soft materials such as rubber and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which has good sealing performance and corrosion resistance.

‌Classification by End Connection:

  • Pneumatic wafer butterfly valves: Pneumatic wafer-type butterfly valves are suitable for environments with narrow pipeline space, and have the advantages of compact structure, light weight, and easy installation
  • Pneumatic flange butterfly valves: Pneumatic flange-type butterfly valves are connected to the pipeline through flanges, and have the advantages of firm connection and good sealing performance
